Remember how I talked about this lady the day before yesterday?
Well, I was trying to come up with something to make for her before she leaves for the mainland. I wanted to make a quilt, but there just wasn’t enough time. We’re still in summer at our home, so it’s BIZZEEEEE! She runs most of her business remotely, so I thought a laptop case would be practical. I just needed to find a way to make it sentimental. I have this fabric that I love.
It’s actually home decor fabric that I got from Fabric.com for super cheap a couple of years ago. I thought it was perfect since it appeared to have a Hawai’i flair to it without being tacky. Anyway, here’s how it came out.
I waaay miscalculated and made the exterior fabric too long. Of course, being that it was 2:30 a.m., it wasn’t until AFTER I was finished, that I realized I messed up. Instead of cutting the whole thing open, I just tucked the bottom portion up and in. Then I sewed across the bottom. Normally, there would be no seam there. It kind of worked out because now there’s extra padding on the “landing.”
To personalize it, I had the kids write thank you messages using these Marvy Uchida fabric pens. I prefer to use the micron pens, because the tip is really fine, but I couldn’t find any around the house. If you look close, you can see that I did quilt the inside fabric to some cotton quilt batting.
Now, every time she opens the case, she’ll be reminded of how thankful we are for her. The tutorial I used actually calls for two buttons, but I thought a hook and loop (Velcro) closure would be more practical.
